The Twin Comanche was developed from the single engine Comanche by Ed Swearingen who at the time operated a facility that specialized in the modification of production aircraft. The first Twin Comanche PA-30 was delivered in 1963. In 1966, the PA-30B step-up model was offered which included a third side windows and six seats. Total sales of all PA-30 models came over 2,000 airplanes before production ceased in 1972 when their Lock Haven, Pennsylvania facility was flooded. The big draw - as with all the Twin Comanches - was the airplane's ability to extract maximum speed from minimum horsepower and fuel consumption. The PA-30's 160-hp, Lycoming IO-320-BlA engines produced cruise speeds of 165-170 knots while burning only 16-17 gph total. The engines have TBOs of 2,000 hours and are highly regarded for their simplicity and durability. Twin-engine rate of climb is listed as 1,460 fpm and single-engine rate of climb is 260 fpm. This is probably the cleanest and lowest time Twin Comanche on the market. It has been hangared at least since 1976. Stepping inside this airplane is like stepping back into the mid-70's with the burnt organge color scheme. For those nostalgics among us, this is truly a classic, original airplane.
