Piper introduced the first Cherokees (150 and 160) in 1961. In 1962, Piper added the Cherokee 180 (PA-28-180) to make it practical to fly with all four seats filled. In 1968, the push-pull controls were upgraded to quadrant levers and a third window was added on each side of the fuselage. In 1973, Piper changed the name of the Cherokee 180 to the Cherokee Challenger, lengthened the fuselage by 5 inches, widened the wings and horizontal stabilizer. In 1974, Piper again changed the names of some of its airplanes and the Challenger became the Archer (PA-28-181). In 1975, Piper changed the Hershey Bar wing to a tapered wing, increased the gross weight from 2,450 to 2,550 lbs, and renamed the airplane as the Archer II. This model remained in production until 1994 when the Archer III was introduced.
This 1976 Archer II, with the relatively low cost of ownership, is well-suited for pilots flying for $100 hamburgers. The airplane was disassembled, inspected, and overhauled as needed from the spinner to the trim tab including the new Airtex interior. The engine performs wells and the airplane flies great! |
