Mooneys are among the most efficient and structurally sound airplanes manufactured. The low profile cross-section and laminar flow wings reduce drag to enable the fast air speeds typically unachievable in other manufacturers’ airplanes with similar horsepower. The tubular steel frame, acting as a cockpit roll cage, along with the wingtip-to-wingtip wing spar make the Mooney airframe the strongest and safest among GA airplanes. The M20J, first introduced in July 1976 as the 1977 Model 201, included a variety of airframe enhancements engineered by Roy LoPresti that increased the top speed by 16 mph over the M20F model. The M20J, branded the 201, since it achieve 201 mph on only a 200 hp engine, was a significant milestone in Mooney’s history. Mooney continued improving the features and creature comforts in the "J" model until production ceased at the end of the 1998 production year. In 1978 Mooney upgraded the engine from the IO-360-A1B6D to the IO-360-A3B6D, which became the mainstay of the 201 fleet, and upgraded the power quadrant to Push-Pull Power Controls for precise power management. This ’78 flies and runs great! The panel is full IFR with a Century IIB autopilot and HSI coupled to the Garmin GNS 430WAAS. The interior is very nice and comfortable for long cross country flights. As with many of the airplanes we sell, Air-Mods has maintained this airplane for the last four years and we know the airplane inside and out.
