Measured by its longevity and popularity, the Cessna 172 is the most successful mass-produced light aircraft in history. The first production models were delivered in 1956 and, with more than 55,000 delivered, the Cessna Skyhawk is the best-selling, most-flown airplane ever.
Cessna introduced the retractable-gear version of the 172 in 1980 and named it the Cutlass 172RG. The Cutlass featured a variable pitch, constant speed propeller and more powerful 180 horsepower Lycoming O-360-F1A6 engine. The 172RG sold for about $19,000 more than the standard 172 of the same year and produced an optimal cruise speed of 140 knots compared to 122 knots for the contemporary 160 horsepower version. Between 1980 and 1984, 1177 RG’s were built, with a small number following before production ceased in 1985. While numbered and marketed as a 172, the 172RG was actually certified on the Cessna 175 type certificate. This 172RG is in very good condition. It has a very clean airframe and no corrosion. It is priced right for a quick sale. Add your own iPad with WingX or ForeFlight and your ready for your next cross-country flight. |
