Cessna delivered the first 150 in 1958 as the successor to the 140 taildragger (what was considered convention gear at the time). The most obvious difference was that the 150 had tricycle gear which was easier to learn to fly than the tailwheel design of the 140. By the time Cessna produced the last 150 in 1977, 23,839 airplanes had rolled off of the assembly line placing it as the number five top produced designs in aircraft history.
The Cessna 150 is one of the most popular small airplanes ever produced. It is forgiving of mistakes and easy to fly. The high wing configuration means that visibility from the cockpit is excellent. Throughout the 19 years of production, the original 150 design continued to evolve with improvements such as the addition of the rear Omni-Vision window, a swept tailfin, electric flaps, bowed-out doors to allow for more hip/shoulder room, tubular main gear that was 16% wider for better ground handling, and the final “M” model added 15% greater fin/rudder area for better crosswind landing authority. While thousands of pilots learned to fly in the 150, many longed for the taildragger design of the 140…hence the “Texas Taildragger” modifications emerged which was retrofitted on this 150M in the mid-80’s. To make this airplane even better, the original Continental O-200 100 HP engine was upgraded to the Lycoming O-320 150 HP engine. This extra horsepower dramatically improves climb performance and makes it even more fun to fly. With only 1,874 total hours on the airframe and only 267 hours on the engine, this has to be one of the lowest time 150’s flying. We also just had it painted with a modern spin on a classic paint scheme by Reese Aircraft. It is stunning! You’ve got to see it! |
