Comments
The M20R Ovation is fast!  Introduced in 1994, the 180-knot Ovation filled the gap between the M20J MSE (201) and the M20M turbocharged TLS.  The Ovation took advantage of Continental’s proven six-cylinder, normally-aspirated 550 engine de-tuned to 2,500 RPM limiting the horsepower to 280.  Mooney chose the smooth running IO-550-G with new tuned induction air tubes for more even fuel distribution and, with lower cylinder head temperatures and improved cooling, the Ovation didn’t need cowl flaps.

Mooney improved the model in 2003 with the Ovation 2 DX featuring a standard Garmin 530/430 package, data linked weather capability, a KFC 225 and a KCS 55A HSI.  In 2005, a GX version was offered which included a Garmin G1000 glass panel.  In 2006, the DX version was dropped and the Garmin G1000 Integrated Flight Deck became standard equipment. The Ovation 3, introduced in 2007 added the Garmin GFC 700 autopilot and offered the factory installed STC option increasing horsepower to 310.

While the STC was factory installed, it was installed after airplane certification and, in order to distinguish this version from the normal Ovation 3, Mooney dubbed it the “Standing Ovation.”   This upgrade is rated for max continuous power at the 2,700 RPM redline, rather than the 2,500 RPM limit of the Ovation 2. The airplane can also cruise at the full 2,700 RPM, or you can reduce RPM to 2,550 rpm producing 262 HP or 85% power.  Since this same engine is rated for as much as 350 hp in other applications, the 262 HP setting represents only 75% of the max rating…which also allows for a 2000 TBO.  We flight plan this Ovation 3 at 190 kts at altitude…the fastest normally aspirated single-engine piston airplane in production!

This airplane is beautiful and flies great!  We are a certified Mooney Service Center and we just completed a thorough annual.  It VRef’s at $360K, but is priced to sell quickly!
