Comments
Mooneys are among the most efficient and structurally sound airplanes manufactured.  The low profile cross-section and laminar flow wings reduce drag to enable the fast air speeds typically unachievable in other manufacturers’ airplanes with similar horsepower.  The tubular steel frame, acting as a cockpit roll cage, along with the wingtip-to-wingtip wing spar make the Mooney airframe the strongest and safest among GA airplanes.

The M20J, first introduced in July 1976 as the 1977 Model 201, included a variety of airframe enhancements engineered by Roy LoPresti that increased the top speed by 16 mph over the M20F model.  The M20J, branded the 201, since it achieve 201 mph on only a 200 hp engine, was a significant milestone in Mooney’s history.  Mooney continued improving the features and creature comforts in the “J” model.  By 1994, the improvements included lower gear doors, wheel wells, 70% smaller air intake, improved access panels, flap hinge fairings, flap gap seals, aerodynamic seals for tail assembly, ventilation thru dorsal fin air scoop, streamlined wing tips, removable rear seats, additional soundproofing, one-piece belly pan, speed brakes, round-corner windows, and electrically operated cowl flaps among other enhancements.  After 1994, features remained pretty status quo until production ceased at the end of the 1998 production year.

This ’94 model is a relatively low-time model with only 1455 hours on the airframe and engine.  The engine, however, received a Lycoming factory tear-down in December 2005 (due to non-motion prop strike incident with hangar door), and has flown 493 hours since.  The paint has some clear coat delaminations (see last two photos) in certain areas and the price is adjusted to allow for this and the lack of ADS-B.  Otherwise, the airplane is in great condition and ready to fly on your next cross-country flight!
